Transitioning Your Skincare For Fall

The first sign of fall’s impending arrival dropped today: Pumpkin Spice Lattes! (Did you get your Dunkin?) While you’re sipping your #PSL, now is the time to start transitioning your skincare routine for fall.

Refresh Skin With Exfoliation

Getting rid of dead skin cells will reveal the smooth fresh skin underneath and allow for better absorption of skincare products.

By using a chemical exfoliant, not only will it remove the top layers of dead skin to reveal healthy skin below, but it can also hydrate the skin and help treat acne. Ingredients to look for include AHA, BHA, glycolic acid, and enzymes like pumpkin or papaya.

A Natural Difference's Phyto-Pumpkin Enzyme Peel (5%), Fresh Faced Skin Care’s Exfoliating Enzyme Mask, and Sorella’s Blackberry Lime Fruitfoliant are exfoliation treatments you can use at home. Not sure which product to use? Consult with your aesthetician.

Scheduling a Dermaplaning Facial is another great way to exfoliate the skin and get rid of peach fuzz. It’s customizable depending on your needs. For instance, some clients get Dermaplaning + Enzyme Peel, or Dermaplaning + Sensi Peel.

Now that your face is all glowy, don’t forget to exfoliate your body, too.

Ramp Up Skin Hydration

Once your skin is exfoliated, it's time to focus on hydration. How you layer your skincare will affect your resultsAlways apply serums first, followed by moisturizers.

For fall (through winter), switch your moisturizer to one that contains more humectants in it, ingredients that boost hydration by binding water to the skin. Some examples of natural humectants are Hyaluronic acid, honey, aloe, Alpha hydroxy acid, algae, and seaweed.

Also adding Vitamin C to your daily routine will provide your skin with a slew of brightening benefits including improved hydration and even skin tone. We like A Natural Difference's Cellular Repair Concentrate Vitamin C+ and Sorella Apothecary’s All Night Elixir.

But not all products that promote Vitamin C are the same, and packaging matters. To get the best results, purchase products that are packaged in opaque (dark, blocks sunlight), air-restrictive glass bottles or pump glass containers, so the Vitamin C remains stable.
