Transitioning Your Skincare For Fall

The first sign of fall’s impending arrival dropped today: Pumpkin Spice Lattes! (Did you get your Dunkin?) While you’re sipping your #PSL, now is the time to start transitioning your skincare routine for fall.

Refresh Skin With Exfoliation

Getting rid of dead skin cells will reveal the smooth fresh skin underneath and allow for better absorption of skincare products.

By using a chemical exfoliant, not only will it remove the top layers of dead skin to reveal healthy skin below, but it can also hydrate the skin and help treat acne. Ingredients to look for include AHA, BHA, glycolic acid, and enzymes like pumpkin or papaya.

A Natural Difference's Phyto-Pumpkin Enzyme Peel (5%), Fresh Faced Skin Care’s Exfoliating Enzyme Mask, and Sorella’s Blackberry Lime Fruitfoliant are exfoliation treatments you can use at home. Not sure which product to use? Consult with your aesthetician.

Scheduling a Dermaplaning Facial is another great way to exfoliate the skin and get rid of peach fuzz. It’s customizable depending on your needs. For instance, some clients get Dermaplaning + Enzyme Peel, or Dermaplaning + Sensi Peel.

Now that your face is all glowy, don’t forget to exfoliate your body, too.

Ramp Up Skin Hydration

Once your skin is exfoliated, it's time to focus on hydration. How you layer your skincare will affect your resultsAlways apply serums first, followed by moisturizers.

For fall (through winter), switch your moisturizer to one that contains more humectants in it, ingredients that boost hydration by binding water to the skin. Some examples of natural humectants are Hyaluronic acid, honey, aloe, Alpha hydroxy acid, algae, and seaweed.

Also adding Vitamin C to your daily routine will provide your skin with a slew of brightening benefits including improved hydration and even skin tone. We like A Natural Difference's Cellular Repair Concentrate Vitamin C+ and Sorella Apothecary’s All Night Elixir.

But not all products that promote Vitamin C are the same, and packaging matters. To get the best results, purchase products that are packaged in opaque (dark, blocks sunlight), air-restrictive glass bottles or pump glass containers, so the Vitamin C remains stable.

Dermaplaning FAQs + Dramatic Before and Afters

In honor of our upcoming Dermaplaning Event, we’ve put together a special dermaplaning compilation post. We’ve gathered up your FAQs plus their answers and a few of our favorite dramatic before and after client pics. Oh, and did we mention we have a brand new Dermaplaning Video, too?

Got a dermaplaning question not answered here? Let us know in the comments below plus any other skincare topics you’d like us to cover.

What Is It?

This 45-minute exfoliating treatment ($75) rids your face of all peach fuzz and dead skin, leaving you with an instant improvement in your overall skin texture and appearance.

For the dermaplaning part, a skilled aesthetician uses a surgical scalpel to remove the dead skin cells from your face. As the top layers of dead skin are being removed, so is peach fuzz, too.

What Are the Benefits?

Products soak in better, makeup glides on smoother, fine lines are diminished. And you’re left with an immediate healthy glow. It’s no wonder this is a La Belle favorite!

Is It Customizable?

Your Dermaplaning Facial is customizable depending on your needs. For example, we have clients who get Detox Gel + Dermaplaning + Sensi Peel, or Detox Gel + Dermaplaning + Enzyme Peel.

You’ll discuss with your aesthetician your targeted concerns so you can choose the right peel (or masque) for you.

Does Hair Grow Back Thicker?

Dermaplaning does not cause your hair to grow back thicker. You’re removing layers of dead skin and peach fuzz. Your hair will grow back, but it will look just like it did before.

Does It Remove Dark Spots?

Unfortunately no. Dark spots come from your bottom layers in the dermis. If you have dark spot concerns, lightening peels can help!

Is It Safe For All Skin Types?

While it is safe, let your aesthetician know if you have any skin allergies or sensitivity prior to the procedure. And if you have acne, it's recommended you wait until breakouts are clear before treatment.

How Often Should You Get It Done?

Typically once a month, or prior to a facial service for maximum results.
